Our Autumn/Winter 26’ programme brings a brand-new line-up of workshops, scratch nights, and development opportunities right to the heart of Glasgow. Whether you are looking to refine your craft, pitch a new project, or share works-in-progress in front of a supportive audience, every event is designed to support emerging, local talent without financial barriers.
Space for our workshops and labs is limited, so make sure to secure your spot ahead of time:
OCTOBER
Actors & Directors Skills Development Workshop Series
Dates: Every second Wednesday from 21 October (21 Oct, 4 Nov, 18 Nov, 2 Dec, 16 Dec)
Time: 6pm - 8pm
Venue: Under the Rug Hub, 76 Waterloo Street, G2 7DA
Cost: Sliding Scale from £5 per session (£3 for members)
Details: Tailored for actors and directors looking to collaborate on modern and classic texts. Designed as a low-pressure, hands-on environment, each fortnightly session pairs participants up to explore unfamiliar play excerpts, helping actors refine audition techniques and build showreel material while allowing directors to practice quick-turnaround staging. Beyond developing craft and confidence, these sessions offer a supportive space to connect with fellow working-class creatives and build lasting industry relationships.
Open Mic: What's the Rug?

Details: Low-pressure development evening for anyone & everyone developing new work who would benefit from presenting a short sharing in front of a supportive audience. Comics, dancers, poets, musicians, writers – all are welcome!

Details: Want to get involved with the Rug? Join us at the Hub for our issue #2 information event. We'll be discussing the theme for our second issue, opening pitch submissions, and breaking down how local writers, poets, artists, journalists, illustrators, photographers, and more can get involved & contribute. Whether you know exactly what you'd like to do, or just want to chat through an idea or pitch with our editorial team, come grab a cup of tea, meet fellow contributors, and help shape our next issue.
The Winter Writers' Incubator

Details: A high-intensity weekend residential-style lab for 10 writers. Spend three days writing, table-reading, giving peer feedback, and rapidly developing plays in progress alongside a dedicated writing community & theatre leaders.
The Unbrushed Writers' Lab (Official Launch)

Details: The Unbrushed Writers' Lab (formerly Dustbunnies) is Under the Rug's flagship, fully funded script development initiative designed to take new writing off the page and onto its feet. Built specifically to eliminate financial barriers for grassroots playwrights, this selective lab offers four writers dedicated space, peer collaboration, and dramaturgy over an intensive weekend sprint (27–29 November). Following a two-week rewrite window, participants hear their work performed script-in-hand by professional actors in front of a live audience at our Glasgow Hub to gather crucial real-time feedback. To top it off, one writer from the cohort will be selected for a full staged production as part of our Spring 2027 season, giving your script a direct pipeline from initial workshop to a fully realized run.
