From Under the Rug to the Fringe
From folk horror to dark comedy – meet the incredible companies who prepped their Edinburgh Fringe shows right here at the Under the Rug hub.

Since opening our doors back in February, we have welcomed over 200 people to our space for various workshops, rehearsals, research & development sessions, auditions, co-working, and so much more.
For the past few months we have had some incredibly talented companies in for their rehearsals as they prepare to take to the biggest stage for creatives in the world – the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Here are the shows that have been rehearsing at the Under the Rug hub, and from what we’ve seen & heard whilst in the space, these shows are not ones to be missed!
Turn the Cloth by Cutty Sark
A darkly funny, atmospheric new folk horror play set in 1989 Scotland, weaving together traditional waulking songs, kelpie folklore, and 1980s horror tropes as a small Scottish town faces a harsh winter storm, local tradition, and a spirit hungry for a wife.

Slayers by Rupture Productions
A tense contemporary drama following Liane, a single mother and abuse survivor trying to shield her ten-year-old daughter from the world. After her daughter experiences bullying and Liane has a jarring encounter with the online manosphere, mother and daughter take up boxing, develop a taste for violence, and plot their revenge.

Headcase by Cold Open Theatre
Ian is the youngest man at his village church, which dwindles in numbers every year. When Ian finds a Stone Head, which only he can hear speaking, he decides to listen to its wisdom and build a religion of his own.

Parasocial Activity by Gallus and Silly Mission Productions
Jenny meets her favourite A-List celebrity in Costa and they instantly fall in love. She knows that they are meant to be, but some jealous sceptics don't seem to agree. How far will she go in the name of love? A dark comedy exploring parasocial relationships in the digital age.

Fruit Flies by Fast Snail Productions
When visiting her old gay best friend, Maddy is introduced to his new friend Steph, and sparks fly. One disagreement over Chappell Roan tickets later, and the two fruit flies find themselves sucked into a bizarre world where they are pitted against each other again, and again, and again...
